For this work, the covers of seventy-eight of my own hard cover books were scanned at the decorator paint shop’s computer. From the alphabetical order of the names of these colours, I arranged the books into three groups of twenty-six colours each: three colour ‘alphabets’. I balanced the books in three towers according to this alphabetical order. Three large paintings in acrylic house paint in the colours from the scanning process and an index card file containing the paint names and their corresponding books made up the work installed in the window of Civic Library. The initially sceptical librarians were won over by the card file.
This work was HIghly Commended in the Helen Lempriere Travelleing Art Scholarship in 2003.
